Honor Your Companion and Help Us Celebrate
130 Years of Saving Lives!

We want to hear YOUR story!
The Wisconsin Humane Society is grateful to individuals who volunteer, donate and adopt a shelter animal. Hundreds of thousands of animals have found loving homes through WHS since 1879 and we'd love to hear your stories!

For a $130 donation in honor of our anniversary, you can post a special message and photo of your beloved companion animal. You can share your photo and story with your friends and family because this page will be accessible through the end of the year. Wildlife photos are also encouraged! Upon receipt of your donation, you will be given a special email to send your story and photo. Click here to participate and help us continue to care for homeless, injured, and abused animals for another 130 years!

As a volunteer I was giving Oscar (cat) meds before he was ready to be put up for adoption. He gave me a hug, so he had to come home with me! Sophia (pooch) was a surrender and so emotionally shut down when I first saw her, I thought she was a puppy mill dog. I was compelled to bring her out of her shell and by the time I did, she had made her way into my heart. She is almost completely blind, but you would never know it. She loves Oscar (he tolerates her) and brother Henry, also a WHS alumni, but he refuses to have his picture taken.

Hildegard came to us through the Rescue Waggin program at WHS. At the time we had three male Norwegian Elkhounds and adding a fourth was not something we had considered. One look at her sweet face and I fell in love. She adjusted to her adoptive brothers very well and quickly became the life of the party. She is the princess of the household and most days everything pretty much revolves around her. Its been said, a dog wags its tail with its heart, well, Hildegard has a big heart! Thank you to all the staff and volunteers who made it possible for Hildegard and I to spend our lives together.

Bob joined our family as a foster kitten. He was only 1.5 pounds and he looked like a dandelion that had gone to seed; his hair was so long, we couldn't see his feet. We nursed him to a healthy 3 pounds before he returned to WHS for his sterilization surgery. Because it was love at first sight with Bob, we simply couldn't let him go, so he joined our happy family of Gracie (Golden Retriever) and Baxter (domestic short hair and WHS alumni). Thank you WHS for all the great work you do.

Sometimes Barley whines in the morning until my husband gets up to let him outside... halfway down the stairs, Barley races back to the bedroom and jumps into bed with me! He always grins widely at this. I am so lucky to have this clever, goofy, happy, loving dog in my life. I am so thankful to WHS for giving him a second chance. We have four animals, three of whom are WHS alumni, and we treasure our furry family!

Louie, thanks for the 10 years of companionship during our daily long runs. You always stayed by my side when out for a run, even when there was much more tempting stuff to smell in the woods! If the weather was too poor to run outdoors, you stood next to the treadmill pretending! Now that neither one of us can run anymore, you remain at my side during our daily walks. You are a great dog, Louie! Thanks to Wisconsin Humane Society for helping Louie find his way into my family 10 years ago!
