Building Humane Families
There's
an exciting new partnership with the Wisconsin
Humane Society and the Sojourner Family Peace Center aimed at strengthening relationships
within families! Building Humane Families is a seven-week
program being held weekly at the Wisconsin Humane
Society that targets both two-legged and four-legged
members of the family.
Studies show those
who are abused as a child are more likely to be
abusive as adults. Studies also show there is a
link between animal abuse and human violence. Building
Humane Families is a proactive effort to promote
positive parenting and educate children about developing
healthy relationships with others. As valued members
of the family, animals play a vital role in the
program by helping to promote important messages
of empathy and kindness.
Families are referred
by social service agencies; there is no charge for
participants and transportation and child care are
provided if needed.
