Submissions Sought for “Be Kind to Animals Week”
Wisconsin Humane Society to Present Annual Awards in May
MILWAUKEE – Be Kind to Animals Week (May 3rd – 9th, 2009) is the oldest celebrated week in the nation! Recognized officially by the 108th Congress in 1915, this special week continues to remind us of the things animals do to enhance our lives.
The Wisconsin Humane Society is sponsoring events in celebration of Be Kind to Animals Week. Children in Kindergarten through 6th grade are invited to enter the Poster, Poetry and Photography Contests. The public is also invited to nominate special individuals whom they think deserve recognition for helping animals and showing compassion. Awards include: Humane Hero Award, Animal Hero Award, Kindness Awards and the Humane Education Teacher of the Year. Award winners will be honored at a special recognition ceremony on Sunday, May 3rd at the Wisconsin Humane Society.
This year’s theme, Share the World, reminds us all that we need to do what we can to maintain a world that will sustain animals of all kinds. From the love that we share with our own animals at home, to the greater world we share with amazing wildlife, animals are an integral part of our lives.
For more information on entering the contests or nominating someone for an award, visit www.wihumane.org, call 414-431-6159 or email Dezarae at dhartwig@wihumane.org. The deadline for all entries is Wednesday, April 8, 2009.
