Students Raise Nearly $7,000 for Wisconsin Humane Society

MILWAUKEE
- Greendale Middle School held a “Tune Out” fundraiser to benefit the animals at the Wisconsin Humane Society……and raised $6,625! Twenty-six students and two teachers made it 92 days (yes…3 MONTHS!) without Internet, TV, texting, video games, etc. Two teachers also bet the kids that if they reached their goal of $6,000, they would get green Mohawks!

On Thursday, the students surprised Laura Nowlin and Mike Haertl from WHS with a giant check. “We were absolutely shocked at how much the students had raised,” said Nowlin. “We are so thankful to the kids, teachers and administration at the school. We don’t receive any government funding and this contribution will make a huge impact on so many animals at the Wisconsin Humane Society.”

The principal of Greendale Middle School, John Weiss, is very proud of the students. "The students’ involvement in this Tune-Out fundraiser demonstrates their perseverance to remain electronic free, and empathy to raise money for a great cause. Both are elements of our middle school character education program."

The Wisconsin Humane Society is celebrating its 130th Anniversary this year. The shelter adopted 10,000 animals in 2008 and provides an array of programs and services, including: animal adoptions, veterinary care for shelter animals, education, dog training, wildlife rehabilitation, public tours, animal advocacy, spay/neuter services for low-income families, and much more.
